Default remote start

I posted this before and got one response from Hawaii, I am outside Boston and the winter freeze is coming. I have talked to a few very reputable Auto Electronics stores and they all say I cannot get a remote start on my 98 E320 because of the key system. I know some of my fellow w210's out there have remote start, please help! I heard Mercedes was going to release some sort of module or something to fix this but do not think they did. Did they? Come on guys keep a guy from freezing this winter, I drive to work at 4 a.m. and it's already cold!

Buy a nice heavy coat and some wool socks. It doesn't get so cold in Boston that you must have remote start. Besides, it wastes a lot of gas and prolonged idling is hard on the engine.

You can get remote start on the E320, but the kicker is finding someone to do it. It is a tedious process compared to putting remote start on most other cars. And if they mess up, your car may not start at all and will cost alot to repair, but that's worst case scenario. But usually if they get it wrong you'll have sporadic factory alarm being triggered, even while the car is in motion or driving down a highway. Most shops just don't want that kind of liability. And that type of work have the potential to void many warrenties if you car still have em.

Even though the W126 is way different from the W210 as far as year and electronics, I got the same answer from just about all the shops. Luckily I found the guy that worked as a mechanic at a Benz shop. The process basically include tying the remote start sytem into the car key system module while bypassing the key system electronic thing (forget the name of it) with a very small piece of material that kinda look like syrafoam. But now I have to use the basic valet keys now. Small trade off in my opinion.

I love remote start. It's nice to press the button and have the car running before you reach it, the seats already adjusted, the heater warm, the heated seats on. Marvelous. Good luck in finding a shop. It will be a hard search.
