Noisy driver's seat

Just bought a 2002 E320 4matic. Beatiful car, very well taken care of. However, the squeeking driver's seat is going to drive me insane. Actually more of a click anytime you start from a stop. Dealer's service guy sat in it and said it sounds like a seat rail/frame is broken or cracked. Also gave me the whole "we'll need to take the seat out to fix it, it's going to be expensive" bit.

After doing a little research it seems like this is not all that uncommon with these cars. Has anyone addressed on a DIY basis, or have any other ideas. Seems like there should be a way to address without paying the dealer, or any other mechanic, $500+.

Thanks.

Update - Noisy driver's seat

Well, my faith in humanity is restored. I sent an email to the service manager at the dealer where the car was purchased. I explained the situation, really only hoping he would offer to split the cost with me, or at least give me a break on the hourly rate.

Within 30 minutes I got a response that they would take care of it at no cost to me. While I definitely thought this was the right thing to do, I didn't expect it. I was ready for them to tell me that this isn't covered under the CPO warranty, which admittedly it clearly isn't.

Anyway, for the record, I wholeheartedly recommend Phil Long Mercedes in Colorado Springs and service manager Steve Crosby specifically. Nice to see someone stand behind something and do the right thing for a change.

Oh yeah, here's the car...

RE: Noisy driver's seat

I have the same problem with my 2000 E320. Did you ever figure out what they fixed? I am wondering if I can do it myself, or at least know what the problem is so I don't get taken by the mechanic.

RE: Noisy driver's seat

They took the seat out and replaced the entire bracket that the seat is mounted on. It fixed the problem but I'm sure the part was expensive, as I believe it includes all the motors, etc.
