FWIW - my '95 E320 has leaked transmission fluid since I bought it. I discovered if I let it run about a pint low, it barely leaks. If I fill it up before a road trip, it slings fluid on the exhaust and smokes like crazy at a stop until it leaks down to the pint low level. It's coming from above, not at the pan, so it is probably is an internal seal that would necessitate removal to repair. Others may discourage this, but I decided to let it go until I have some other problem with it. I've put about 50k miles on it since purchased, now has 180k, still no problems other than the leak at full level.
