Default Need an advice

Recently my E320 died in front of a traffic light while stopping without any warning signs or lights. I tried to re-start, it turns the engine, but won't start. After towing into a mechanic shop, the tow driver got the car started. I later took it to a MB mechanic. He said the problem was the failure of "crank sensor" and he replaced it. Should there be a warning light, such as "check engine" before it failed.

head over to MBWORLD.ORG and BENZWORLD.ORG. in both, under the 210 forums, you
should find many many posts on the notorious CPS, including easy remove and replace
DIY.

Default how to tell?

Raymond,
What's the easiest way to differentiate between the crank sensor and a bad fuel filter? My instinct told me to suspect the fuel filter before anything. How can that be ruled out in a case like this?

Post motor oil leak, request advice/help

Last week I bought a 1987 300E and the seller did point out by the side above the spark plugs(Side) There is a slight motor oil leak. My Q. Is this a easy "Head Cover Gasket"? (Not the Major Head Gasket). Once I get the Cover gasket, is any special steps I must take to replace the gasket and stop this leak? Thanks, Donald

Thumbs up Not much help here...

Sorry guy but I'm not up to snuff on gasket repair on these cars. My E320 had the driver's side valve cover gasket replaced at about 125K.... It was a cake job per the good MB mechanic in Sarasota. He noticed a bit of sludge in the engine. I have been agressive with the oil change schedule since! (4th owner of the car and my guess is that it was somewhat neglected before I got it.)

Good luck.

Smile Can't remember

Chuck,
I moved from Sarasota in 2007, so my memory of the good mechanic is rusty. He was in Sarasota, off of Clark and McIntosh. Foreign guy, foreign guy assistant/receptionist. Good work, busy yard/shop, fair prices. I will seek him out again if I move back there. German Cars of Sarasota is a great shop but they are nearly as expensive as the dealership. Their attitude stinks in my book. Good luck.

Just rolled over 217K yesterday, did an oil change. Car is still solid.
