RE: model naming
In the 300e series the e stands for the traditional Einspritzung (fuel injected)
The T stands for transporter to us a wagon. In my case a 1999 wagon e320 is called a E320T some call the T touring but to the germans it denotes Transport. It was an inline 6 gas engine non turbocharged 177 hp. ohlord |

RE: model naming
All US 300TE cars were graymarket as Mercedes only inported the 300TD. I remember thinking about getting one in 1981. The asking price was around $25.000. I think the 300TD was about $28,000.
I do remember that the 300SD was $32,500. Sam |

RE: model naming
Right you are. I misread the question and was thinking of 1980 and not 1990. I am getting old and my eyesight is failing a bit.
During the 1990 year the TE was all you could get as the diesel was not available in the US. Something to do with emmissions, no doubt. Mercedes had stopped selling the diesel here also because of troubles with the turbocharger on the 6 cylinder diesel. The 300TE from the 1980's was the graymarket car. You still see them for sale everynow and then. Where is that magnifying glass when you need it? Sam |
