Default manual fuel door release 95 -420

My locking pin/rod on my 95 E420 decided to NOT unlock when I unlocked all doors. I am hoping there is a manual release hiding somewhere in the trunk that i can't find???? Searches are not returning anything??? We had several days of freezing weather and all appears to be working fine on the car except my need to put gas in it!

Thank you! That did the trick. The **** was fairly hard to pull. I was afraid it was going to break but it finally moved back slightly and I was able to open the door. It was well hidden behind that metal spring support!

Does the rod that actually locked/unlocks the fuel door need greasing?

Mine appears to stick from time to time. I have had someone lock and unlock the car. The rod does move back and forth. Those sometimes it is slow, sometimes faster, sometimes farther and sometimes less.

I suppose this could be a vacuum leak but wonder if the rod itself or mechanism might need lubricating to slide easier?

I am afraid I will break my manual release if I use it too frequently. It is fairly stuff to pull itself?

weak vacuum or leak could be the cause.

lubrication is not necessary for it might damage the element diapghram (it is made of thin rubber).

This should be a fairly short line between the mechanism and the pump correct? I will pull that side panel off and give this a look. Now if the diapham is leaking that may be another project.

thanks for the help on the p/s and a/c. I have tackled that beast and won. Though my pocketbook is alot lighter. It ended up being the upper hose after I got the bottom shield plate off and could see more from the bottom. Even having a hydraulic company fab the host still ran me a couple hundred
