key for E320

I just purchased a 1997 E320 - no owners manual so I'm a bit blind. I have had many Mercedes previous but none this new. My question is about the key. It came with only one. Its rectangular in shape part # 2107601306 - of course the medal key works but the electronic does not. I've opened it up and out came 2 batteries. 1 I ca read the number CR2016 and that one is very low - should be 3 volts. The other one is thicker and I can not read the number but I can make out the 3v and it is reading that. I put in a new CR2016 and putting both batteries together I can read 6 volts. Assuming that is the correct combination - I tried it. I think it might have worked one time because the alarm came on and I had to use the key to turn it off. But nothing after that.

I looked on ebay and found a posting for 1997 E320 and the key looked different.

So after this long story - my questions are

Do I have the wrong key for this car?
Is there anywhere to get one other then Mercedes (I called - $266)

Thanks
Lou

Ok - I was able to find out I had the wrong batteries in this. Got 2 @ Wal Mart and it works....

So My next question - where can I get another one cheaper then @ Mercedes @ $266.
I could use just the "key" part

As far as I Know Keys are coded to car. They can be ordered from Mercedes and they are coded and work,. You will always get what you pay for when it comes to your Mercedes. They may be able to code a used key but by the time you buy new batteries and pay them to code your worn used part it's probably not worth the time. You would still have the wrong emergency metal key as well. Spend the dough. It will be worth every penny when the first set is lost and you didn't pay for a tow. Believe me I Know after my wife lost my only set. LOL They Mysteriously showed up after a Flatbed put my baby back in my driveway with a parking ticket on it. Always good to have TWO!!:)
