Default A host of quetsions from a new guy.

Hello all!

Couple 'o' questions for ya, then I'll be out of your hair. (By a couple, i mean im a total car n00b and even worse with this one... so maybe quite a few questions)

I just bought a 1986 Mercedes 300E (Gasoline) 120,000 miles on it.

1st question. The speakers and stereo in this thing are old and I'd like to replace them. However, Im having a hell of a time trying to figure out what size speakers to buy. (I would like to replace both the front and the rear speakers)

2nd Question. At around 1500-2000 RPM my car makes kinda a grinding noise. I'd assume this noise comes from the transmission. I havent checked the fluid yet, so that might be the problem, but I was wondering also if there is anything Else I should be looking for.

3rd Question. Is there a dimmer switch in this damn thing? LOL.

4th Question. My "shifter" (I have an automatic) makes a squeaking noise when it's in drive. (I could hold it back a little and it wont make the noise) It's not a big deal, but I was wondering if there is anything I can do to shut it up.

5th Question. BWAHAHAH just kidding. Im done.

I look forward to your responses. Hopefully I'm not being incredibly stupid about this.

#1. Those speakers (front and rear) are 4 inches size. If you buy OEM speakers from MB, they have clips that wil fit right in. If you buy after market speakers, you will need to make a round adapter to make them fit.

#2. Grinding noise, it could be from bearings of alternator, AC or cam chain noise. If the car is moving, it could also be wheel bearing noise. Transmission usually make humming noise...

#3. Just turn the trip counter reset button

#4. Rubber seal around the shifter base

Enjoy your car ........and a tip: be aware of the upper plastic hose connector of the radiator. The radiator of my car (88'-300E) looks good and works perfect, one day that plastic connecot just broke right off...

good luck
