Help!! I have a chance to buy a '91 300E for $200!!>>
Hi guys, I have a great friend who has a '91 300E 4Matic (4 matic doesn't work on it). It has 191K, cold air, service records, white/gray, clean interior, no rust, etc. The BAD: It needs at least $800 worth of body repair (front fender/hood damage). Also, the car needs a head gasket. It runs great, but has oil in the antifreeze and quickly heats up. I want to try the repairs myself. Question I have is this: Would you do it?!? Can I get hurt?!?
Thanks in advance for the replies... -Grant H. |

Grant, I would give it a shot. I have a '92 that I am pretty happy with. You should be able to find the body parts pretty easily, e.g. ebay, and in most cases fairly inexpensively. I recently saw a hood selling for $75! I have not replaced a head gasket on mine, but it looks like it would actually be relatively easy. These cars DO have a tendency to run warm, especially if both the electric fans are not working. As for the 4-matic, mine did not work either when I purchased it, but I added a little fluid, lo and behold it has worked fine ever since, 4 years later.
