Gearbox Issues

I have a E240 2003 model and the only issue i have is that, while driving the gearbox selection would
get stuck in some particular gear eg Gear 1 or 2 and refuse to change, Sometimes, if i switch the engine
off, the gearbox resets and sometimes, it wont. This time i need to take the car to the garage and have
them attach the diagnostic leads and reset with the computer. This happens very regularly and looking
for a permanent solution this problem.

Please anyone HELP OUT

Regards

RE: Gearbox Issues

Hi,
The diagnostic codes will likely indicate what is causing the problem. Then you will have some idea what to be looking for.
If no code is set then that is more of a mystery.

If this problem keeps returning after an ECU has been reset something is definitely wrong!
Start at the beginning.
Is the Trans fluid level correct? Dealer job unless you buy a dipstick for the trans etc.
Service history? How many miles?
Common problem is water (pop/soada etc) spilt on the centre console which gets into the trans shifter module.

RE: Gearbox Issues

Have you had the codes read yet?
Vehicle details?
When I said water / soda I was referring to a spilt drink/beverage adjacent to the shifter mechanism. Basically the module needs to be replaced (internal components have shorted) although cleaning MAY sometimes resolve matter if you are DIY savvy. Sounds like your first stop is to get the codes read.

Stuart.
