Front speaker replacement

Hello,
I have a 94 e320 wagon with front speaker out (the one in the dashboard). Can anyone tell how difficult this is to replace and a good place to purchase the Speakers.

Thanks

RE: Front speaker replacement

Assuming that it is indeed your speaker(s) that is (are) defective, and not the Radio itself, than its a very easy DIY job. There is a piece of trim (the long narrow strip) that you first need to pry-up by carefully inserting a small and thin flat screwdriver underneath. Once this trim is removed the 3 screws holding the speakers are than accessible. If its your driver's side speaker that is defective, and if your car came equipped with a factory cell phone than the driver's side speaker will have 2 coils (4 wires), 2 wires for the Radio and 2 wires for the car phone. The passenger side speaker is more standard and has only 2 wires.

As far as I know, only Mercedes would have the 4 wire replacement speaker for the driver side. If you are not concerned, or don't have the car phone, than the speakers are interchangeable, The single coil passenger side speaker is probably cheaper, although both a re relatively inexpensive. I would buy them from Mercedes as than you will not have any problems fitting them back in.
