front armrest fell down!
 

On my '92 300E sedan, the front armrest now collapses until it rests on top of the sliding door on the console. Normally, it flips and locks in the vertical up position, you press the large black button on the passenger side, then it lowers to a horizontal position. I've taken it off, looked in at the internal mechanism, but cannot figure out why this is happening. When I removed it, a small rubber bushing fell out but I can't tell where it came from or if it is part of the problem. If anyone can help with this, it would be greatly appreciated. The maintenance CD rom shows nothing about this item.

Pretty embarassing! Reading thru the owner's manual I see that the model 124 armrest has two (2) different down positions depending on the angle of the driver's seatback! Anyhow I was able to modify the internal mechanism so the armrest now stops in a horizontal position. When all else fails, read the owner's manual!
