Default fob not working

Last week locked car [ 1996 E320 ] and went into office. When I left, I pushed
unloack button on FOB and doors would not unlock. Used manual key to unlock
car and good to go. Changed batteries in FOB and when I push button I can see
a red light in FOB go on but doors do not open.

Any ideas or links to this problem would be appreciated

Mine does that, but only on the driver's door. The trunk and passenger's door work okay. Does yours do the same?

I don't have a fix, but if yours acts like this it would isolate the problem to one IR receiver rather than to a system problem.

No. All door functions appear to be dead. I have replaced the batteries in the
FOB but this does not seem to be the problem.

I do not recall if the green and red lights on the mirror react to the FOB

I guess you have just one red/green light thingie in the rearview mirror and it's kaput. I have three. One by each door lock and one by the trunk lock, so just ignore me. Different systems.
