engine warning light
Without a scanner code,I will only offer some possibles.Check your fuel cap, make sure it is seated properly. If you have auto supply shops in the uk like we have here ,they will read your codes for free at some of the large chain supply auto houses. If not you need to go to a shop and have the codes read.Post them here before you do anything or have a shop do anything. It is usually a simple fix if you can pick up a screw driver

okay to drive it as long as the light does not flash quickly ,then it is best to not drive until you get the codes.
Do not drive it for weeks with the light on as that may affect other systems,so get those codes read and post them!

As ohlord has advised, get the OBDII codes read.
If you bought your car from an MB dealer you should have sufficient "goodwill" in the bank for them to do a Star Diagnostics quick check for free. If not they will usually do this check for £25.00.
Get the codes read (they should give you a printed report) and come back.
Since your car is OBDII compliant any garage should be able to read the (engine) codes and may be less expensive than the dealer route.
It is possible that your problem could be linked to the bad fuel problem in the SE that occurred earlier in the year.
Where do you live?
Ensure the garage don't automatically proceed to rectify the problem and of course charge for whatever needs to be done. This approach can lead to big (unnecessary) bills.
Is the car servicing up to date?
If so I'll hazard a guess that the MAF needs cleaning / replacing recognising that your vehicle is 02 but components like this should not be serviced / replaced without confirmation of the code which supports diagnosis. Of course there are many potential causes for this warning.
