E220CDI Engine rattle/smoke ?
 

Hi Chaps, I have a E220CDI 2005 W211, 172,000 MILES

Been runnung fine, then all of a sudden put foot down and its smoking like mad, ( white smoke )
On tick over it sounds fine But you can smell burning at the rear of the car, REV it a little and there is a Hard metalic Knocking sound towards rear of engine ! Thought it was Turbo ( had a new one 20,000 miles ago ) But MB specialist removed it and said it was ok !

On a STAR check on tickover the injectors/fuel supply are showing OK !

I think it could be an injector ? never replaced any so they have done 172,000 !

Any thoughts ?

injector problems yes i have seen them. its really hard to diagnos with out viewing this one
