How did you check the codes? Those do not look at MB codes - make sure to refill the trans fluid; any empty tank will ruin the transmission.

Hi checkied it with that box with the numbers. Forgot the name but if u hold down the button it will blink how many times it blicks is the code number and then u repeat it. The trans fluid was too hi, too full. Its not empty just overfilled. I think its called a limp or something like that name. Is that hard to fix. Pls let me know what I should do buy a replacement tran or try to fix it. I already tried to reset it. There4 was instructions on how to reset a tran, but not sure if that would eventually work. It didntg help yet. Thanks for any help

That's correct, since your car is OBD1 you have to check the codes the old school way (blinks). Are you referring to the car going into limp mode, meaning that it decreases the power output? Are you able to take the car to a Mercedes mechanic? It's hard to diagnose a transmission issue online - you need someone with experience to see what it looks like.

No trans mercedes here not in our area. I cant drive it that far away. Was looking about info on the limp thing. Lilke how do u fix it. Is there a link for that info that you might know. Yes your can be in 4th gear but then the car goes down into a different gear on its own. High RPMs but no speed. It worked fine yesterday. Then a friend thought it needed more trans fluid and put more in and it was way over what it needed. We drained some out. Car ran fine yesterday went and stayed in gear, today nope. I hope you know of a link I can check out how to fix this issue. I found one but it was for a newer car So I dont know what to do, no merc mechanics anywhere close. darn. I wanted a merc, now I dont know. lol Take it to the auto auction nextg Tues and get rid of it for what I can get. Any help u can givfe is much appreciated.

Thing is we took that kick down switch out and it ran fine for one day, can that kickdown switch mess up the tranny sure hate to bother you with all this and really apreciate your help. I might take it to the auction like I said fot a good sounding motor new radtior and great body. Just I do like the care. It has a very quiet motor. Wonder if its worth to fix the tranny and what when wrong, like I said ran one day great down the hwy and now its not. Darn car. thks again

I found a link on replacing the kick down switch - not sure if it'll produce better results for you as it sounds like the issue is really with the trans itself. These 'older' MBs are a bit finicky; so you need a bit of experience dealing with them. Glad to help out!
