Default E220 Coupe - Alarm issues

Hi all.

Few questions, If anyone out there has any ideas that would be great.!
Bit about the car first:
1996 E220 Coupe (124)
Has the infrared locking system etc, and a sticker on the window claiming that its fitted with a Mercededes
Benz approved alarm system. (Doesn't have it included on the factory docket though)
It also seems to have an Immobiliser thats either part of the alarm or connected to it.
I'll describe its behavior someone might recognise it.
Open car using remote, you have about 30secs-1min to start the car, otherwise the indicators will flash and the red alarm LED will come on. - you are then unable to start the car.
Same thing happens if you are driving along, then stop the car, after 30secs-1min the same thing lights will flash and car won't start. So you have to get out of the car lock it and unlock it to turn off the immobiliser.
Does anyone know if this is infact the Mercedes alarm? is it behaving as it should?
Also if anyone knows how its controlled or set? As my alarm guy can't seem to figure it out.
(want to install a Cobra system, lets me use the existing Infrared key etc)

Cheers for any help!

PSE Module (A37)
Functions of PSE
(depending on model)
• Central locking (CL)
• Head restraints (RHR)
• Closing assist (CA)
• Multi-contour seats (MCS)
• Remote trunk release (RTR)
• Remote trunk locking (RTL)
• Rear defroster
• Anti-theft alarm (ATA)
• Manifold vacuum assist (MVA)
Pump can provide pressure or vacuum

Central Locking Functions
• Locking & unlocking via remote transmitter
- including convenience feature
• Locking & unlocking via the interior switch
• Automatic locking
• Subsequential locking
• Emergency unlocking
• Trunk release

Locking & Unlocking
Door contact switches are
hard wired to PSE
(Rear SAM on 203)
If the car is unlocked and then a door or trunk is not opened, or the key is not
placed in the ignition within 1 minute, the vehicle will be locked as a safety
measure.
If PSE (or rear SAM on 203) measures >6 G impact from any direction, the
vehicle will be unlocked in ~10 seconds.
The hazard lamps will flash once once to indicate unlocking has occurred.
The hazard lamps will flash 3 times 3 times to indicate locking has occurred (only if all
the doors, trunk and hood are shut).

they use the vaccum control pump,if you want to put the after market alarm ,please dont touch any wiring ,if not you will be sorry!!!!

Hi bbs138,

Cheers for the reply.

That doesn't seem to be happening on mine though,
ITs the immobiliser that is turning on, it is not effecting the doors etc.

For example, I'm driving along, then stop, if I turn off the engine , say I'm talking to someone, the immobilser will turn itself on within about 1 minute. So I have to get out of the car and lock/unlock the car so that I can start the engine again.

There is no problem with the re-locking of the doors /boot if I don't open them

Cheers
