Default Defective light Bulb Any Suggestions?

1999 E320 'defective bulb' constantly coming on. The bulb is the brake/tail light. I have replaced the bulb and the bulb holder. I have heard that this is a common problem with this model and year. If I jiggle it about I can make it work but within a day or two same is 'defective' again. does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,

This is a well known problem and the subject of a recall in the USA on certain models. e.g. SLK. It may also include the E but I'm not sure.

Ehere do you live?

MB UK see the problem differently and do not support free replacement of the light assembly.

The problem is due to intermittent contact between the bulb holders and the pressed metal conducting strips welded onto the back of the lamp asembly.

Temperature plays a part in the generation of the problem.

Suggest you replace the assembly since this is a SAFETY related component.

Alternatively IF you are technically minded you could remove the assembly from the vehicle and carefully examine the contact between the two components. Clean or increase contact pressure as appropriate. The potential implications of such action are at your risk.
