Convertible CLUNK

My 2012 E550 Cabriolet has developed an incredible CLUNK in the ?steering column / left front suspension? when I drive over even a slight bump-speed bump etc. Can anyone tell where to start looking for the problem?

Hello and welcome to the forum! Is there any vibration in the steering wheel or any metal on metal grinding sound? It could be the control arm that needs to be replaced. Any codes being thrown?

no metal shavings or codes. Just a serious clunk noise and you can feel it in your hands on the steering wheel. Sounds like it is definitely in the left front suspension. I have to suspect the steering column is loose?

the sound could be described as a "boink " like sheet metal flexing, but the feel from the steering wheel on your hands is startling. If you are turning into a parking lot downhill and hit a bump it is most severe
