Childproof Rear Door Locks

For those of you who are concerned about child safety, it may be of interest to you that Mercedes-Benz vehicles sold in the USA do NOT have childproof rear door locks.</P>

My inquiry of dealers in the area indicated that virtually all of the competing manufacturers do have childproof rear door locks.</P>

I wish that I had known this before I acquired my 2003 Mercedes E320.</P>

Feel free to contact me if you would like to see my letter to Mercedes-Benz USA and their response to me on this issue.</P>

Hm...is itbecause Mercedes are equipped with automaic door lock and once the car go pass 9 mph or presslock button, all doors lock and the rear ones could only be opened by opening the driver's door, press unlock button or involved in a car accident. </P>

Even after the doors are locked on a Mercedes, a child can pull up the button, pull the latch handle and open the door while the car is moving. Childproof rear door locks would prevent a child from being able to do this.

Isn't it amazing that growing up we are even still alive? Up until 10 years ago, there were no such things as child safety locks, airbags, etc.

Good! Now I have a reason to not let them in my car. My kids always want to play in it.<edited><editID>halstead987</editID><editDate>38086.6014467593</editDate></edited>

For six months I would not use my car when my son was with me. On those occasions I used my wife's car.</P>

I have since disposed of the Mercedes and purchased a car that is much safer for children.</P>

I have a 99 e320.</P>

The button is a lock for the windows. There is no childproof safety lock for the doors.
