There are actually many possible reasons for the 'check engine'. I have been driving with it for a while now. You can go to Autozone or some other parts store and ask for OBDII reading (emission system). It's free, after you have this code, e-mail me and I will tell you what system it is and show you several web sites whre you can get the whole code list. You probably will not know quite what to do with it but you will have an idea if it's serious. For example, my code was P0410. That's secondary air injection system, it does not impact engine performance.

Go to Google and enter OBDII , or On Board Diagnostics and you will get many returns from which to choose. You will also find OBDII forumns where mechanical types discuss the codes, possible causes and the diagnosis equipment and software. I had a check engine light problem on my Ford Explorer and these sites were alot of help in verifying info from the mechanic. Good luck. </P>
