To buy or not to buy?

To buy or not to buy-that is the question. I have a 1995 E300 Diesel (165k) in mind. Owner stated the car was in a fresh water flood last month. Sediment stains are visible up to the hazard switch. The car is dry- for the most part, but has not been detailed. Same for engine bay. Air filter was wet. Otherwise all at least visually looks good. Body is clean, no rust or damage. Tried to turn the car over for the first time since the flood. No cranking at all. Maybe a dead/shorted battery.

Owner is asking 2500. Should I offer less or stay clear?

This will be a Bio/HHO local driver only and not my primary ride.

Absolutely agree with everyone else-DON'T buy! If for no OTHER reason, all electrical relays/switches will have to be replaced for peace of mind. They should be asking $500 for a flood damaged car, what a joke! Let the car become someone else's beast of burden. Reminds me of the story of MB's that fell off a car carrier-only to be 'fixed up' and resold.

Yeah, try to find one running. If the engine is seized and connections and fuel system iare rusted, it could cost you $10,000 to get it right again. I agree with Real1shepard that $500 is all it is worth in that condition. The seller would probaly do better parting the car out.

I bought a 2000 C280 that was looked at professionally and was clean as can be and have all sorts of stupid issues. I couln't even imagine what you can run into with this one.
