Burning oil

I have a e320 wagon 2000 with 60K miles, my oil level light keeps coming on. The dealership tells me that I need to add a qt. of oil every 1K miles-Is this normal?

RE: Burning oil - me too

Have also noticed consumption of about 1 quart every 3-4K miles. Recently noted on a Euro website a warning of excessive oil consumption due to worn valve guide seals on E320s. In any event, I won't buy the "its normal" from MBUSA or dealer. My BMW has 125k miles and does not waste a drop of oil. Would really like to see if others are seeing similar. Anyone else?

2000 E320
I change my oil every 5k and don't have to add any oil in between.

It is normal for an engine to burn a small amount of oil.

My 2000 E320 burns about 1 Qt every 3,000 miles. The Dealer said that MB USA said they will not consider an issue unless it burns 1Qt every 650 miles. However, the advisor said that should not be normal. I have never had a vehicle that burns oil, so it is dissapointed. Can we make a group of us and complain to MB USA?

I have a 91' 300E that burns about 1qt per 1500 miles. Oil consumption of a quart per 3k is normal. Anything more than that can be attributed to worn valve seals or a head gasket issue. Check your engine and see if you detect any oil leaks around the seal. 1qt per 1k is not normal. You have an issue but easily remedied by adding additional quarts. Far cheaper than head gasket or valve seal replacements.

One Quart in 1500 miles is NOT normal.... The roadside wagon that I drive also burns some oil. Its kinda common but not normal....Its either bad valve guides or bad rings... If I were you I would just keep adding oil. It gets expensive doing those repairs.....
