RE: broken mirrors how to fix

Please elaborate. How is it broken? Is the glass mirror part broken or the spring is loose and the mirror does not stay in place? Electric mirror not working? What?

The side mirror parts are expensive. The right side on my 97 E320 broke last year. The part that holds one end of the string inside the mirror broke off. I was able to retrofit and screw in a piece of metal inside to hold the end of the spring.

What is going on with yours?

It sounds that you have the same problem I had last year. The small hook that holds the spring inside is broken. It is somewhat difficult to repair that. The bad news is that even if you are sucessful to repair that, then the mirror face is quite expensive.

At this point I would look into buying the mirror assembly including the mirror face. It is relatively easy to replace the assembly with a new one.

You may want to call your MB parts dealer to get pricing for the mirror face or the whole assembly. You can look online also. I usually buy my parts from www.importecparts.com when I am shoping online.

You should remove the mirror to avoid scraching the mirror cover of the door. Here is a very good thread with good pictures explaing how to work the side mirror:

Good luck.

Good information ohlord.

I just checked and as of the time of this posting. The left side mirror is $26 cheaper on www.importecparts.com compare to http://autohausaz.com. I thought I should mention that to be fair.

Mind you that I have no association with importec whatsover other than the fact that I order some parts on the site from time to time.

It is possible that some parts are cheaper on one site versus the other and visa versa. I have not compared every part. My experience has been that importec usually has better prices and on one occasion they mached a lower price from another site when I called importec.

RE: broken mirrors how to fix

I had a similar situation on my 190E, 1991 and I got a used LHS (driver side) from a junk yard.
It is no use buying an expensive new mirror when the other partson your car are old.
An old/used mirror won't increase mpg on your car.
