Default Brake lamp makes me fail inspection

The Brake lamp in the middle of the rear window makes me fail the safety inspection. It is not working but it is not the light bulb and I checked the ground side of it and it is OK. So obviously the electricity is not getting to it although it gets to the taillights when I brake. I thought maybe there is an independent fuse but I cannot find.
Does anybody know, if there is a fuse ? If not then it must be the connection of the wire. Does anybody know where the connection is ?
My car isa 1997 E320 USA 210.05 body (I think).
Thanks a lot if you know the asnwer, I have to have it fixed and reinspected by Jan 5.

Default RE: Brake lamp makes me fail inspection

Well. I had to take it to my trusty mechanic who $40 later fixed it. He told me it was corrosion in the connection of the live wire whic was stopping it from lighting.....
It works now.
