Steady state on the cruise control,tires at 5 lbs over oe pressure I have done over 30 in the 3700 lb 99 e320 wagon.I have seen sedans on long level or down hill stretches average well over 30,but that is rare.Maybe at 300 ft altitude Saratoga Springs is down hill all the way to the ocean

I know it hard to digest here but I swear this is no lie. The on board computer said 35mpg. I know this is rare. This was while driving a highway in Massachusetts at night with no one on the road and cruise control for many miles at about 65ish.

 

I believe it,that's why I said it could be done.But it takes special conditions,air temp,humidity,altitude ,speed and road conditions to get there.Your normal mpg is probably not 35mpg.Right

Oh no no. No where near 35MPG for normal. Ha Ha especally when you have a 20 year old sonand a 16 year olddaughter with a boyfriend who take the car sometimes.(If Istill hadmy old 600SL, and kidsI would be in trouble)Its hard to tell what my normal MPG because I only work about 3 miles from home. I would say maybe 18-19mpg as a ballpark figure.

 

Some one on here was saying they got 30mpg with a C320. Thats really good also.

 

Gents, before anyone gets excited about gas mileage... they should take the mileage calculations for several tanks first. Do an average. Look for trends. Every time I fill up, I get back in the car and it drives my wife nuts because I grab the calculator out of the glovebox and I do the number crunching. My light just came on today and I'm at 520 miles on the clock. I will fill up tomorrow and hope to see an average of about 28 MPG on my '98 E320 sedan. I love the gas mileage on this car. It is just an incredible machine. Take care everyone!!

 

I already suggested (I think twice), using the pump/calculator method. Using just an onboard device in not the same as a physical math test. The original poster admitted that; it was a fluke trip as far as mileage was concerned, and not at all a mean or an average of the car's usual mileage.

Another poster is adamant that it's NOT possible for that car to achieve 35mpg, no matter what. This wouldn't even be an argument if the original poster had checked his onboard computer against the pump/calculator method.

Also take into consideration the size of the car. The E Class is not a small car by anymeans. For even a V6 E Class to get 25mpg thats still very good.

i have a 1995 E320 I6 engine with 103k miles on it.
i have done several pump/ calculator test for my car. And the result is not really good with around 20 mpg mix and 24 mpg high way.
i don't know what others think?

 

what can I say? seems like the europeans have a different position from us yanks...what's to be done? apparently it's a matter of opinion...cliff
