Aux. Fan on a 260E

Just noticed my auxillary fan on my 260E is not working. What I do know is: The fuse is good, the fan still works when given a 12vdc source, and the relays under the hood on the drivers side will pull in when given a 12vdc source. I assume the fan is to operate on a high water temperture too, and it doesn't. What else is in the circuit that could be holding the fan off? Which relay is the aux. fan relay? The sockets are marked "A", "B", "C", and there's one that is not marked. Thanks in advance for the help!

When the aux fan doesn't move it usually means you need a new clutch for it. It is held in place by an 8mm bolt that requires a special tool to remove if you don't happen to have a large 8mm allen wrench. P.

PKMAVEN: Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately the fan doesn't even run when connected to the wiring harness. When I disconnect the fan and put 12vdc directly, then it does run and the fan blade turns. I feel that it's another device in line keeping the circuit off to the wiring harness. If I take my voltmeter to the wiring harness while the compressor is on, I don't get any voltage to tell the fan to run.

It also could be your aux fan resistor located on the drivers inner wheel well or the aux fan switch located on the drier bottle.I have both items in stock if needed. You can reach me at 1-800-741-5252 for more Mercedes parts at lower prices than anyone anywhere.

I have the same problem, but i suspect the relay. As it is costly to change it, i don't find the need as long as your thermostat is working properly and coolant is checked regularly. It is only when you are during 37*C weather</P>
