I have the same exact problem with my 2000 E430, sometimes won't start, sometimes stalls. Was also told by Mercedes it is the crank position sensor. Does anyone know if the stall problem can occor when driving at any speed, or does it happen only when stopped or at idle? I am really worried about the car stalling on the highway.

 

Yes it can stall at any speed if it fails completely while on the road.Fuel shuts down because it is not getting any signal of the proper crank position.Order the part from autohausaz.com about 50 bucks delivered and follow the diy on benzworld.org w210 section or on www.mercedesshop.com
You can do it ,if you follow the easy directions.If jennycat means you are of the fairer sex,don't let that stop you,I have talked many through far harder diy's.Dealer will rip you off.
