97 E420 timing chain ?
 

hello, had my 1997 e420 towed home last night, 1/2 mile from home, cruising at about 50 mph, step on accelerator pedal, engine dies with what sounded like a huge exhale from the engine. at first , thought it was fan belt. was not. maybe skipped a tooth ? when i went to restart, engine cranked slowly (like there was exta compression ) , after a few attempts, engine cranked normally , but wouldn't start. i'll have to try again today, i think the dash idiot lights were all on when i was cranking, check engine, traction control warning, i don't remember what else. these may always come on when starting, i was a little out of sorts- also this car had a clogged cat converter last year. had it replaced and since then had a rough idle/ surging feeling at red lights. ran fine with good gas mileage on the open road though, so i lived with it. also has 135000 miles. thanks for any help- kmulholl (jerry)
