'97 E320 oil in the coolant...need help
 

I have '97 E320 with 103 K miles.
I found some oil in the coolant the other day but no coolant in the oil.
Is that the head gasket problem? Blown gasket ?
Also, there some leak that is coming from the front of the engine ( around the crankshaft area) and goes down to the oil pan and then when take off the muffler gets it.
Any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.

Guess no one want's to handle this one. Run a compression test on the engine,then run a pressure test on the radiator,looks like you've got a head gasket going south.Any good indie shop can test or you can rent the guages at a rental shop,they come with instructions,see what you get.There are some stop gap fixes that work in the short term and cost about 20 bucks at the auto parts store,you need to flush the whole cooling system and follow the directions,takes some time to do,but have seen it last quite a long time in marginal applications.

replace the oil/water heat exchanger.

it's the oil filter housing itself.

Please, explain in details. I am a rookie in this but have done a lot of mechanical work.
What exactly needs to be done?

6000 + posts do not nessesarely make it so,
Care to point out where on a stateside 97 m104. L6 or late year1997 m112.941 v6 engine an oil/water heat exchanger is? there isn't one.
Heck most of the 98-02 don't have them fitted to the oil filter housing.That's one of the reasons for using synthetic oil and it's high heat range.

Get your compression tested, before your compression tests you !
Also any good radiator shop can test for leaks into the coolant,with a combustion leak test. Looks for hydrocarbons in the coolant.

yes 100% there is a oil cooler housing on the m112 v6 beside or can isay just next to the oil filter it as two coolant pipes comin of it,its acutal attched to oil filter housig ,if its m104 which is the stright 6 it does not have one...............

Na z , don,t know what enginge youre working on but all of the 99's, mine and others we work on,don't have the square housing attached with the cooling lines coming from it,and they are all 112 engines.
Anybody have one on a 99 not eurospec?If his m104 does ,more power to him maybe someone shot one of those bypass adapters and installed an oil to air cooler,but that would not be the cause of his problem,and where in front of the condenser would it be installed without blocking air flow.
