96 e300d engine surging
hi, engine his surging and you can see it on the tach needle. Is there spedial additive to clean
injection nozzles or is it more serious. It seems to do it when you hold the throttle steady between 2500 and 2800 rpm. Also the engine mounts are worn.Tough job or not/ Any suggestions appreciated. i am an aircraft tech so i do not mind doing the work. It is hard to find service manuals for this car. mike |
RE: 96 e300d engine surging
surging is not a problem with the injectors but of ELR (electronic idle speed control). you must check the input signals and vacuums.
the engine mounts are easier to replace. only a jack is needed. what aircraft do you work mostly? i am curious about those mammoth engines. |

A bad mass air sensor will do exactly what you described. I'm not saying that's definitely what it is, but you should add it to the checklist sleepwalker gave you.

Thanks for the input but this is a diesel and it does not have a mass air flow sensor.
I will check the vacuum and inputs. Alternator was just changed and the garage might has disturbed something. |
