95 E320 wagon check engine light (black hole)

[>:]

95 E 320 with 120k miles. Have had car and serviced since 45k. Replaced wiring harness last year. Octbober 04' check engine light came on took to dealer replaced air temp sensor. November 04'check engine light back on took to same dealer cleaned the egr tube (said egr valve was functioning properly). Two days later check engine light back on. Nov13 2004 Dealer says these are un related and we are waiting for new diagnosis. I beleive must be a root problem that has not yet been fixed and we are fixing only symptoms.

Any ideas of how to get this properly fixed?

Also, how do i reset the check engine light to make it go out for a few days?

they will know the fault code from memory.

disconnecting the battery will reset the check engine light. (if not hard code).

[:@] I have a 95 300E Wagon with 103K miles. Similar "check engine" light problem for last year. Various mercedes-savvy mechanics have said the diagnostic comes back inconclusive, either nonsense number or error code blank. Finally took it to dealership. They say that the wiring harness and engine control module need to be replaced (about $3700 parts and labor). I'm skeptical. I've found the parts for this repair online for my chassis and engine for a significant fraction of the cost. No one can cite an example of this problem leading to engine failure or any other system failure. The car runs perfectly by everyone's admission. A common culprit that has been named is the O2 sensor (this is eerily similar to goingjap's diagnosis). I'm looking for someone who has dealt with this problem. If I find the Holy Grail I'll post what I know. I really like this car and I want to figure this out. any thoughts anyone?

If you have the original wire harness, this will cause CElamp codes.
The poor harness was from 93 - 95 models.
Your car has owner code/diagnostics access , so you can get your codes or clear codes/CE lamp with the push sw/led under the hood
In front of battery, blk box w/lid..
