94 E420 / Battery or Alternator?
I have a 1994 E420 with about 85,000 miles. It is my second car, and I drive it just for pleasure or long trips. I hadn't driven it in about 1.5 - 2 months; it would not start this weekend.
Called road service, they jumped it and it fired up. The technician asked how old the battery was; I can't recall - maybe 3 or 4 years old. He checked the battery and said it would probably be OK if I drove the car for about 30 minutes.
I gladly did that :-) and the car ran great. Parked it overnight; it would not start the next day. Just clicking noise. No warning lights, etc.
Not sure if it is the alternator going out; I think it is the original one (I have owned this car, 2nd hand, about 8 years, and have not replaced the alternator).
Should I try getting a new battery first, or just take it into my MBZ guy?
Thanks!
