Smile 94 E320 won't shut off

Happy Holidays!!!
My 94 E320 alternator failed and also killed the battery. I replace the alternator and battery and the car starts and charges fine. My problem is that when I remove the ingnition key, the car continues to keep running. This is my only transportation so I would really appreciate any ideas you my have.
Thank you for helping me.
Pete

The only way the car won't shut off is when the power to the ignition coils isn't getting shut off. The problem should be in your ignition switch which is what cuts the power to the coils. When the car stays running after you turn it off, are there any dash warning lights on, such as the battery light, CE light and oil light? If not, the Ign switch is not doing its job of cutting power to the engine.

There aren't any lights staying on after I turn the key off so I will replace the ignition switch. Thank you for the help. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Happy holidays Rpuerini!

The electrical part of the switch is what should be bad. It sounds like what's happening is the feed to the coils via the ecm is not getting cut when you turn the key off. It's cutting the feed to everything else except the engine. If it isn't the ign switch you could have a shorted wire in the harness. You have to start somewhere, hopefully it's the switch.

Do you know where I might find instructions on removing the cover just below the steering wheel and ignition switch. I've removed all the screws I could find and the lower part is loose but the upper part of the cover just below the steering wheel is still not coming loose.
