722.358 trans 1st gear start

I have a 1990 300E and I would like to gain info on how to alter the trans so it starts in first rather then its normal start in second gear operation. I have read this in the "E class owners bible", (Bently Publishers). The book says there is a way to modify the trans to start in first thus giving smoother starts and less strain on the engine.

Detailed info lacks in the book. If anyone has done this change please post the info.

TIA

Michael

I think that tranny would require an alter in the valves...like a valve job. I know 2_phast has done it on a 500e.

first you need to know the principles before doing modification on 1-2-1 command valve.

you may replace the spring of the reaction valve to less force in order to shift.

Thank you so much, SW........I printed the schematics and taped them together.....four pages! Nice to be able to follow the flow/functions.

I have a book on the 722.3XX & 722.4XX coming soon. Have some study to do.
