2007 E280 CDI Glow Plug - Do I Have to Wait for the Light to Go Off???

Hi guys

Recently got a W211 2007 E280 Sport CDI Estate.

There was a glow plug warning light on the dash, so had all of the glow plugs replaced. Also noticed that it took a while to go from turning over when turning the key to actually firing up...

But assumed this was due to glow plug issue related to the fault and it would go away once they were replaced.

But car came back and still can take 20 second or so of turning over before it fires up.

So back to the garage and they noted that if you put the key in, wait for the glow plug light to go off (10 - 20+ seconds) and then turn the key it fires up immediately.

They said this is normal on these diesels.

Do you really need to wait 20+ seconds before you can start your car? In the olden diesel days yes, but this seems a bit old fashioned on these new modern diesel engines??

Any advice very welcome!
