2006 E Class
 

Just bought a new E200, there is a noise like a pump from the engine bay each time i brake. My dealer said its normal, please dont tell me this is true. Anybody any clues?? Ireland

yes, it is normal.

it's the SBC. your brake uses pump to build-up pressure.

on your model, it sucks. the noise is transmitted through the oil pressure line as well... that why you can even hear it coming from the body?

if i were to design it, i would put an accumulator on the line to prevent this noise and make the pump suspension better.

Yeh I just got a E220 cdi, cant believe the noise that pump makes, i had a 1991 ford scorpio that had a vacuum pump and you could barely hear it!! this is not what i expected from a merc!

yep its a pain in the rear, or should i say "was a pain" so much so that i traded in my 3 month old E class and bought a new 5 series. This is a far better car. i have had to many problems with the merc over the years so i will never never buy one again
