We just bought a 2005 E320. The Command system has the navigation built in and i am completely unimpressed. The map detail is to say the least bad. No smaller roads, very minimal map and road detail.

Is there an updated navigation DVD? Can this only be purchased from a dealer? Can other navigation sotware be used?

Are there any other options to the Mercedes Satellite radio module? Looking around for one just do not want to pay dealer price...

Sorry for so many questions, this is the first Mercedes we have owned and we are just getting used to it.

That's a very ADVANCE Command and Navigation Unit...are you sure you know how to use ALL of its FEATURES???

The command sat nav is actually very very good once you get to know it. Mine too is a 2005 E 320 but diesel. When I first got it, i thought the sat nav was average but once I've spent 2 hours reading the command manual page by page, theni realised it has all the functionality that other cars' sat nav would have. Use the soft keys and you'll find it gives you plenty of options! The mercedes sat nav is at least as good as the BMW sat nav. The routing I find is slight more intelligent.

You probably have a older DVD. Dealers would have up to date DVDs. If you're lucky, you can find a cheap copy on ebay. In europe, dvd v5.0 or earlier had probelms, v5.1 or above were much better.

The DVD is an older version 4.0. The problem is that the road detail is not very good. Seems like it only has major thorough fares, state highways and some county roads. No local roads and or subdivisions.

When the spare key i ordered arrives i will check on a upgrade to the DVD. Does anyone know what version they are on now?
