2001 E320 Check Engine light on

I have a 2001 E320 that the check engine light came on this morning on the way to work and the car died. I let it sit for about five minutes and the car restarted and I got to work. I know I have a catalytic converter that started rattling last week. Any idea if this is the issue? The check engine light is still on. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Stop at auto zone on the way home to have it scaned for DTC ( trouble code it's free of charge) and post it up. It sounds more like faulty CPS crankshaft position sensor then cat. converter but both of them can show up as a misfire. Broken internal converter can block the exhaust outlet increasing back pressure in the exhaust manufold.

Thanks

MBENZ80,

Thanks so much for the reply.
Since I noticed the rattle in the catalytic converter I have driven the car about 4000 miles. I just havent made it a priority to get it fixed. I did stop by autizone and they gave me 3 codes: P0341, P0335 and P0300. Do you think changing the catalytic converter might help?
I guess I have to get it changed anyway. Any more insight or advice pkease let me know........

P0335 is defective wiring harness. Moisture is getting into crankshaft position sensor's connector.
Part no. for repair kit A210 540 00 33 (about 120mm pre-wired L5 2-pin connector)
If there is too much oxidation in sensor connecting pins, replace the sensor.
My Star manual is not showing DTC P0341 but google it and you will find out that it is the crankshaft position sensor. Single latch connector locking style Bosch No. 0 261 210 171 Mercedes No. A 003 153 27 28
I wouldn't rush into cat. converter replacement since your emissions are fine and CPS is a lot less then new converter. Simple cleaning the connections on CPS may do the trick!
Good luck, Bernard

location of Crankshaft Position Sensor on 2001 E430 4Matic

Did a rear brake job on my 2001 E430 4Matic today and all went well. I drove the car to my son's house and when I left the engine just cranked and cranked. I thought it was the fuel pump. Looked at all the fuses, pushed on them and the car started. Got home and pluged in my OBD and got a general code of Crankshaft Position Sensor. Does any one know the location of the Sensor on my car. I saw some pictures posted but none were an E430 engine. Looks like it is somewhere on the top of the engine.

Thanks in advance
