<IMG src=smileys/smiley2.gif border="0"> Hello, I am new to forums, I have just purchased a used 1994 Mercedes E-420 for my wife, her dream automobile. I have never owned a mercedes before. I keep getting a check engine light every 2 to 3 days, that is after I reset the computer. It flashes 29 times every time the light comes on?? What can be the cause of the light and how can I repair the problem. I have no idea of what the codes are or mean?? Can someone please help me with this problem. I have check to the best of my ability all of the vacuum lines and they seem to be ok.

Where are you getting 29 flashes from? The red LED near the battery?

Yes I am getting the 29 flashes from the red led near where the battery should be, but the battery for the 94 E420 is in the trunk of the vehicle. The red led's are on the passenger side near the computer boxes. <IMG src=smileys/smiley4.gif border="0">Ben

That's strange because I only show a maximum of 28. I'll do some research and get you an answer.

Only 26 flashes, I checked it twice tonight, any ideas? Automobile seems to run real good, except for a slight lifter noise on the right bank, looks like this spring I will have to also look into that, I am retired and do not have enough funds to go through a Mercedes repair facility. any help from anyone would be greatly apreciated. ok, that makes more sense, you had me there for a minute <IMG src=smileys/smiley5.gif border="0"> A code 26 from the diagnostic module (that's where your getting your flashes from) is telling you that your upshift delay is defective. It wants you to check your upshift delay switchover valve which is located near your brake booster. I'm trying to find a picture of it so I can send it to you. Basically this valve prolongs the shift from 2nd to 3rd gear when the car is cold. You may have noticed that first thing in the morning when your accelerating your car holds 2nd gear longer than it normally does when it's warm. Mercedes did this to help warm the cat up quicker in order to get cleaner emissions. It's no big deal if it doesn't work and I'll try to find you a picture in the mean time.

I guess that the upshift valve is located on the or near the transmission. I tried imputting upshift valve on rusty's but said it could not find it?? sorry to be so much of a bother to all, but just trying to get the problem solved. again thanks, '

It should be right near your brake booster....look below your master cylinder and behind it, you should see it there.

Would you also send me a pic if you find one, please? I want to disconnect mine. Screw the clean air crew. I hate winding up a car's engine when it's cold.

found it near the Master cylinder, checked the vacuum there and also the electrical connector and all seem ok, I still have to go down to the trans. and check the vacuum line down there.Dale What is the best technical repair manual to purchase to be able to repair or do repairs on this 94-E-420. I purchased the Cd put out by MB but it is no help also purchased the Mitchell 1 repair CD and that is also no help,<IMG src=smileys/smiley14.gif border="0"> they do not show you how to do anything and is not a lot of useful info.?? <IMG src=smileys/smiley7.gif border="0">again thanks for the help, these manuals don't even have the codes in them??
