1994 E320 running hot

When I first got the car the gauge was showing it as running at 50 C, replaced thermostat with no change. Replaced temp sensor for the gauge and now it is showing on the highway what the thermostat says it should run at. 87C However, at stoplights it creeps up to 100 or so if I don't turn off the a/c. I checked the auxiliary fans and with a jumper wire from the battery they do not run at all. They turn just fine, no play or noises but they just won't turn with power like they should. I am concerned about overheating and results from that, headgasket and such. Do I need to replace the fans and if so how do I get them out of the vehicle? I have a parts car that has two working fans but can't see an easy way to get them out.

there are 2 switchs on your receiver drier that could be bad.

behind your left side headlight is the reciever drier. and there will be wires going to 2 diffrent switches.on the drier, could be the problem. they are pressure and temp switches that control the aux fan.
benzes run at about 100 celcius at operating temp
