1992 400e Check Engine Light (CEL)
I know you subject matter experts are busy with bigger problems than mine, but if any of you guy's could break away and help diagnose my problem I would appreciate it. My one-owner 92, 400e has 200K miles and the only undiagnosed problem encountered thus far is a pesky CEL that seems to come on only after having ridden on a low fuel light for a distance i.e. nearest fuel stop. It only comes on and remainson after I immediately restart the engine once refueled. My economical procedure thus far to remove the light is to disconnect the battery for at least 5 minutes andrestart, and what do youknow- the CELno longer comes on. Additionaly, the car runs like a champ whether the CEL light under this condition is on or off. Don't know if this is a big deal, just annoying. Thanks in advancefor taking interest and I will look forward to your response. CW4 Greg Timmons, 662-687-0703

RE: 1992 400e Check Engine Light (CEL)
Greg,
I am not an expert, but know that in every car there is a vapor collection system in the fuel tank that ensures that vapors are not leaking thru the gas tank cover or by any other way. If this system fails, it will giveyou the 'CEL'. I would advise you not to run the car with low fuel level.Low fuel can damage your fuel system too. Regards Syed |
