1990 300TE u-joint availability
 

Does anyone know the part number or anything else about the u-joint that is used in the rear driveshaft section for this car? MB in thier greater wisdom does not list it and only shows the complete drive shaft in the dealer parts files. I have already had the unit out and replaced the hanger bracket, bearing and boot, but found the u-joint has a noticable 'click" and should be replaced. Can't find a replacement number listed anywhere...

The "click" I mentioned is at the normal installed at rest position. It is actually more like a groove that the yoke wants to settle into. It exists in both axis. When I rotate the yoke it is smooth outside this area but drops in and almost feels like it "locks" into position.
I did notice the rear diff has a funny feel to it when I rotate the back wheels by hand. This condition has been with the car since pretty well day one so I haven't tried to do anything about it. I got the car with 264K kms and it now has 392K kms (about 250K miles). I didn't notice any wonky bushings the last time I had it up on my hoist, but I will check again before pulling the drive shaft.

Both sides replaced within 30K kms. Those bearings were kind of expensive...Factory $500 each, I sourced them for $250ea. I will check them next time on the hoist. It was funny(?) watching the wheel flopping around like a limp noodle as the tire guy was trying to get the wheel bolts installed. Kind of gave away the fact the bearings were shot.

Still think the notch(?) groove, whatever in the ujoint will be my problem. It sounds and feels almost exactly like the other instances of ujoint failure I have experienced before.
