Default 1990 300E oil pressure sending unit...where

My 1990 300E, (3.0) pegs the dash oil pressure gauge (high end) in the on position and stays in the same position when the engine is started and all the time its running. I suspect the sending unit has gone to ground but am at a loss as to where the sending unit is. Anyone out there have this situation occur?

Your input is greatly appreciated!

Thanks much!

Michael

my 94 e320 did the same. This was because the wire from the sending unit (which is located on the side of the oil pan) was not connected, giving this false reading. You can connect the wire, and if it goes down to 0 reading then the sending unit is bad. (which is what occured with mine). You have to remove the oil pan to remove the sending unit. I heard it was a common problem on these cars. Hope this helps.

are you talking about the oil level sensor or the pressure sensor? I thought the pressure sensor was up near the filter somewhere.

I am refering to the oil pressure gauge. It goes to the top with ignition on and remains there after starting.....NEVER MOVES FROM THE TOP.

It would be a kick to have pressure in the oil pan.

on my e320...the pressure sending unit was on the side of the oil pan...the reason it shot to 3 was becuz the main plug was unplugged..(previous owner unplugged it...so it can read 3...so i wont know the sending unit was bad) i plugged it back in...it read 0..never changed....so i changed the sending unit (located inside the oil pan) and bam..it works...hope this helps

J-Mang,

What do you mean by the "main plug" and where is it. I still fail to understand a pressure sending sensor on the pan, I thought that was for oil level.

thanks for your reply!

Michael

Disregard...I see the new account and name change above.

Sorry for the earlier confusion. I have uploaded 2 pdf files to my site so maybe some help will come of them.
