Default 190e won't start

Hello...I have a 1991 190e 2.3 8 valve, the car had been sitting for awhile and when I went to start the car it started and then sputtered and shut off. It did this several times until it finally stayed running, drove the car around for a short while car ran fair, but would idle rough. I poured a can of sea foam into the tank and drove the car around again and wow, the idle got smoother and throttle response was better. I stopped at a light and the car shut off and would not restart. I got the car home and checked the spark, it was fine. Car would crank but not even attempt to start, checked OVP, it's good, I poured gas down the air sensor and the car started, but when more throttle was applied the car sounded like it was running lean, the minute you let go of the throttle it died. I then pushed the butterfly/flapper on the air sensor down slightly while some one was cranking the engine, it started but would die if I let the flapper back up. Can one of you MB guru's lend some insight.
