190e transmission help / mechanic referral
Hi Everybody,
I live in South Miami. I need a new transmission for my 1993 190E 2.6 that just broke 199k miles.I want to go with a rebuilt, I read on another thread that AAMCO does a good job. Any feedback? Also, can someone suggest a great shop with even greater labor prices? I have been paying $99/hr for labor but really needan honest mechanic who charges less. There's a good shop in Plantation but that is really far for me. I need someone local. Any help is appreciated. Stay away from aamco.Call http://www.mbpartsonline.com/recycled.html
ask for an east coast rebuilder or a low mile trans if they have one and you are willing to give a good warrantied used trans a try. go to the 190e forum on mbworld.org and post a shout out for indie shops they are happy with in your area. you need a 722.4 transmission http://www.germantransmissions.com/sc5_mbz.asp these guys are on the west coast but a call to them and they may have shipping or be able to recommend an east coast rebuilder. so while shopping for it just try to sound like you know what you are talking about that way they won't take advantage of your gender:) you will need new lines and a new torque converter also,if the old trans really fragged itself. good luck ohlord the old car is not really worth that nuch so you might want to start looking into getting a newer model....190e with good condition are on the market for about what you will spend on trans and labor to replace it. heres one in sarasota with a good trans and a bad motor for 850 or best offer 1993 mercedes 190 2.6 - $850on craigslist and other nice ones in great shape 190 Mercedes Benz 1988 - $1600 133000 miles |

Hi
Thanks for the advice...I dont take my car to anyone who doesnt specialize in MB service, so I wasnt so keen on AAMCO anyway. Re: my car, it runs well, no reason to look for another. The body and interior is perfect, it just needs some upkeep, like any old girl does!!! :DMy mech told me the majority of the cost is labor, is that true? I appreciate the help! |

All depends on how long he takes.
Are you getting a rebuild or having someone rebuild yours?Unless they really know what they are doing go with a factory rebuild with a warranty. good luck another place http://www.silverstartransmission.com/transmissions.htm ohlord |
