190E Steering noises: Help!

Hi,

Whilst driving home today I began to hear a strange noise when turning the steering wheel in my 1989 190E. It sounds like fluid squirting out of somewhere, perhaps the power steering mechanism? I pondered if it was a scraping noise, but the car steered fine so maybe not.

The power steering fluid appears to be topped up ok.

Has anyone heard of this kind of problem before? Are there any checks I should make to help diagnose the problem?

thanks in advance,

Gary

:eek:please inspect this area ...maybe can help you out ..
due to the year the driving shaft center mounting bearing out of grease....the best way is change it and make sure the front and rear rubber drive shaft disc are good too...cos it will easy to change it at the same time..

In my 1986 190E, I have started to hear strange Scraping LIKE noises coming from the left tire when I turn. I'm not really sure what the person above me's response meant.

The person was above you was right same thing happened to my 190E there is a shaft (bar like) right underneath your car its in the middle under your engine, lift your car and move your tires left and right and you'll see the shaft move and thats what you have to change. Go to your local junk yard and get it.
