190E 2.6 wont start/run properly

Hey everyone. My dad is having problems with his 190E 2.6 .
Originally it would not start at all, so he took it to a local guy that knows Mercedes cars very well and he got it running for my dad. It was very tough to start(wanted to bog, had to pump gas or hold it down), but ran like a champ once it got going. He then took it to an authorized dealer a few hours away and got them to have a look at it. He went back to pick it up, it started great, ran great home, so he parked it for the night. The next day he went to show me and it wouldn’t even start. So he read up on the internet and found somewhere about adjusting a screw in a little black box (that controls the fuel.. so he told me). He then got it to idle great but took it on the highway for a test ride and barely made it back because the motor was flooding itself (obviously getting too much fuel). Which brings him to now where the car won’t start again. I guess he also heard that the flapper under the air box cover (his wording) needs to be adjusted along with the fuel flow box to make it work.

If anyone has any ideas or has had the same problem please let me know.
Thanks!!

I have some of the same problems. but my problem is the RPM. when my 190E from 1992 is in P or N the rpm is rising to 1800-1900 rpm. and the needle is moving up and down. when I drive and give full pedal down for full effect, the car is almost choking before it kicks inn. it.s an Automatic gear box.

It sounds like it could be the fuel pump starting to go bad. Have you also noticed that you're getting various MPGs or different that it's used to? Other members should also chime in on possible causes. In case it is the fuel pump, I'm attaching a link to our site's DIY tech article on this procedure.
