is it worth it?
i went to the dealer to drive a CLS. they didn't have any but the one on the showroom floor. the guy said he could pull that one off, but it is exactly the same ride as the E. they charge 10K more for the styling. do you all think it is worth all of that? it is definately a hot car. i would love to have one, but i'm not sure i can make myself buy something i know is marked up that much more than it should be. what do u think?
(I notice that these days people will pay top dollar just for style even if it is the same as a lesser price car.
Tahoe/Escalade or Avalanche/Escalade EXT. Same car just a different grill. But the Caddy is about $10K to $15K more.
Or some other GM products.

I'm responding to an old thread.
I know that the CLS is based on the E, but I believe the CLS is a stretched version, if I'm not mistaken. Will go back and check the wheel base.
As far as the way it drives... The CLS drive noticeably better in my opinion. My friend has an '04 E320 and they do drive different. The ride is superior on the CLS, probably due to the airmatic ride. I suppose a 2006 E350 or E500 equipped with the airmatic might ride similarly due to revisions and updates in production.
On the style... That is so subjective. What one would pay for style is like asking why a person would pay premium for the same apartment/house/condo with a view. It's a matter of preference. For me, the CLS was worth paying the extra for the looks and the way it drives.
Ask me now, if I would buy it again after 9 months of owning it... Probably not, just because I got over the looks. lol
Just my humble opinion.

While the CLS is based on the same frame as the E, the car is completely different. By way of example, we had a Lexus GX 470, which is "based on" the Toyota Forerunner, but there's no comparison in the 2 overall. My opinion is that the salesman wanted to sell you the E550 because there was some dealer incentive to sell it.
