Default CLS 3.2 AUTOMATIC high rev's but low speed

I have recently bought a CLS AUTOMATIC 3.2ltr engine, 07 reg.. the rev's on the car go to as high as 4000-5000 but the car speed is still down to 30mph.. dont understand the problem can advice what the problem is and what could be the approx cost of getting this fixed..

I love my car to bits never thought a reliable car like this would have such problem.. Can some one help please

does it always do this? are you manually pulling the shifter to shift the car into 1st gear? what happens when you turn off the car ans restart it? when using the tiptronic shift....can you see the gear change in the instrument cluster display? 1,2,3,4,5,6,D? could possibly be a conductor plate problem..or since your car has a 7 speed trans. could need a control unit/which is the conductor plate above the valve body. could be various things causing that. but control unit is common on the 7 speed transmissions
